When more care may be needed

Needs change, sometimes slowly, sometimes overnight. Noticing when the current arrangement isn't quite enough, and acting early, keeps your loved one safe and spares everyone a crisis.

Signs it may be time for more

Your options, from smaller to bigger

Having the conversation

These talks are hard. Lead with love and their wishes: "I want you to be safe and comfortable, let's figure this out together." Involve them in the decision as much as possible, and bring in the doctor for a clear-eyed look at needs. Deciding with someone, not for them, makes a change far easier to accept.

Trust the pattern, not one bad day. Everyone has off days. But a steady drift, more falls, more confusion, more missed basics, is your signal to adjust care before it becomes an emergency. When in doubt, ask the doctor.

This is general education to support families and caregivers, not medical advice. For your loved one's specific needs, work with their doctor, a nurse, or a licensed therapist. In an emergency, call 911.
